I remember my grandmother talking to me for hours when I was a little girl. She answered all of my endless questions without sigh or even a hint of annoyance. She would ask me questions that made me think and form my own opinions.

Ah, and the stories! She told me so many true stories about her childhood and ghost stories that she made up. She was never too busy for me and she was the open book that I desperately needed.

I think as we grow older, we start to understand the value of time spent. It’s not about buying gifts or any grand gesture—its simply giving our most valuable commodity: time.

My grandmother came to visit and she is still just as giving as ever. She sat with my daughter for hours as they talked and talked.
