A Swedish girl

  • She will feel uncomfortable with you for paying on dates. It makes her feel like she owes you something She will probably ask to split the bill or ask to be the one to pay the next time.
  • The concept of dating doesn’t exist in Sweden. It is only something we have observed in American movies. You can’t just ask someone out. You have be friends before you can ask her for coffee and that “date” doesn’t ensure you will be a couple.
  • Don’t buy girls drinks nightclubs as a way of flirting, it is suspicious behavior and it will seem like you want to drug her. Instead ask her to join you for a drink and she will buy her drink herself.
  • Equality is important!!! She won’t put up with any sexism from you but on the other hand she won’t expect you to do the macho act.
  • Some Swedish girls don’t think a relationship has to end up in marriage. They are content with staying “sambo”. It means a partner they live with without being married to. That arrangement is recognised by Swedish law and a “sambo” has certain rights.
  • A a big diamond engagement ring is not the norm in Sweden. Traditionally if you get engaged, you go and pick out out plain rings together, one for each of you. Later at the wedding ceremony the bride will get a fancier ring usually a diamond less than 0.3 carat since anything bigger is out of the norm. The man’s engagement ring will be re used.
  • She might still be friends with her ex or sex friend. A relationship ending doesn’t mean that ex boyfriends or girlfriends have to be avoided. Sex is seen as natural and it is not a big deal to have had sex with someone and then decide to remain only friends.
  • On the topic sex. You might have sex early in the relationship, even before you call her your girlfriend.
  • There is no like ritual when moving past romantic interest to couple. You text/call each other all the time? You have sex? You hang out on your spare time? You are friends? Then you are probably a couple. If it is dubious, then just ask her
