Make sure you keep up your nutrition. Depending on what you like to eat, be sure you are fortifying yourself with the right nutrients.
I know you get a break for an hour or so during that shift. Be sure that the one at 11 or so is like dinner. Not necessarily do you need a heavy meal, but rather grow accustomed to bringing something good from home. I would make a nice salad with tuna or turkey, veggies, and some whole grain bread. Then at a break around 4am or so, have some yogurt and fruit or a light sandwich but with good ingredients. You will no doubt be asleep by 9am. If you are anything like me, you will not get off your tour at 7am, but rather 8am. If you sleep from 9 to 5 or 9 to 4, upon awakening, have the equivalent of breakfast, like a bowl of cereal and some whole grain toast—if you are especially hungry, have something more. My roommate loved sardines. I hate them so I cannot say have sardines, but you know you. What you want to think about is: Have I taken in in my 24 hours all the nutrients I need for keep up with this shift work—this is hard on your body, but you can mitigate the stress by having a plan and for those 4 days, you really just work, eat and sleep with the only exception is taking a shower LOL. God bless your good heart; remember always how much your patients need you and the great work you are doing. There are rewards for serving your fellow man—of this you can be sure!!!!!
