Subith from India who has been living in Canada since 2018 shares his understanding of finding a job in Canada:

“In January month 2018 got my first employment offer after having started my quest for a job in November month in 2017. It was a renowned firm in Calgary. The HR called me to inform me that I was selected and had to join within 14 days, the standard norm in Canada. I was unaware of this and was serving a 3 months notice period in India. So, I could not join that company.

In March 2028 I quit my job in India and freed myself of the notice period. I enrolled in a program to enhance my skills in Programming. In mid-May, I resumed my job search process. It was the most challenging phase as I faced rejections in all 6 to 8 interviews that I attended.

The result was that I was hit hard and also realized that Canadian interviews are different.

I improved continuously after every rejection and by June end I succeeded in 1 interview but they required a final round in person. I booked a 1-way ticket to Toronto and prepared to leave in a few weeks. Unluckily, they informed me later that they decided to move ahead with another candidate.

Nevertheless, I landed in Toronto as planned as I did not want to miss the peak season in the job market in the summer. Despite all the rejections I was confident of what was to be exactly done.

I attended my first in-person interview after 10 days of landing in which I performed very well but was put on hold. Meanwhile, I participated in the second interview the following week and received a highly awaited call from HR. They offered the job to me and accommodated my salary requirements”.
