When I received this text from my nineteen year old daughter, who is still living at home while attending college:

Mom, I’m staying over at <boyfriend>’s tonight.

She’s an adult and doesn’t have to tell me where she’s going or what she’s doing, but she always lets me know so I won’t worry that she isn’t home after a certain time. Still, that first text certainly hit home that she’s living her own, independent, life now.
