A regular Science test (VIIIth Standard)

Teacher: Why couldn't you answer the question “How far is Uranus from Earth?”

Me: Ma’am, because I do not know the answer.

Teacher: Its written in the second page of the fourth chapter

Me: Yes, I saw that but I did not remember.

Teacher: You can’t remember a number ?!? And you think you can do anything in life? I doubt!

Me: But Ma’am, I don’t understand why do I need to remember the distance of Uranus from Earth. I don’t think I will ever require this information in my life , and if at all I do, I can always look it up in the book.

Teacher: YOU NEED TO REMEMBER SO THAT YOU CAN SCORE MARKS!

A BAD TEACHER IS ONE WHO KILLS CURIOSITY AND MAKES YOU BELIEVE EDUCATION IS ALL ABOUT SCORING GOOD MARKS.
