When you choose an area rug it’s important to know the measurements of the space you are going to lay the rug in so you can buy the right size. So how do you figure out the size of the rug you need to fit your space?
The most common rug sizes are 3’x5′, 5’x8‘, 8’x10′, 9’x12′ and 12’x15′.
Living rooms usually need a larger are rug, such as 9’x12’ or 12’x15’ or even larger. These large area rugs define the style of the space. In an open concept room, large rugs can also define different areas. The rugs set a specific room design and create areas for different uses.
If you are decorating a larger sized bedroom consider a rug that is large enough, 8’x10’, to fit your king- or queen-size bed and both bedside tables. If you have beautiful hard wood floors and want to show them off, you can go with a smaller area rug that is 6’x9’, this will allow you to place the rug under the bed just up to the nightstands.
Using a 2'x15' runner rug for a hallway or entrance is a great way to welcome friends and family into your home. Using a runner rug helps guide the eye, especially in a narrow space. Kitchens are another great space where a runner enhances style and comfort underfoot during daily routines such as cooking and washing dishes. Add warmth to the space by arranging a runner between the counter and island.
I usually buy my area rugs from The Rug District because offer different sizes and shapes, and a great variety of designs. They are the perfect destination if you are looking to redecorate your home and want to add something beautiful yet practical to it.
Hope this helps!
