What about painting it?

I’m not suggesting you paint over the entire floor. Just over the affected areas. If that is something you would consider you need to learn about doing a seal coat a.k.a. bleed coat (so the paint doesn’t bleed under the tape/stencil). For it to look good, lines/edges must be clean. I recommending sealing the tape with clear. when you seal the edge do it carefully with a brush. MAKE SURE THE EDGE OF THE TAPE IS SEALED. Before you add your first color.

Tip #2: Always pull up the tape while the paint is soft - fairly fresh or even wet. However; it’s too wet the paint can spatter. If you wait till your paint is completely dry you risk pulling up the paint when you pull up the tape/stencil. Very sad.

The spot or mark is is one organic acid or alkali chemical, mixing it with like or opposite change or fix esit to become a stain or it removes the mark completely..
Better sometimes to let a paint spot say dry and scrape it off latter.
Use water only with adsorption or extraction to the remnants of all organic spots and spills.
Non water based spots and spills need a different approach drying is often the first step as in paint spots.

If you have a wool-content, loop-pile carpet, this is pretty normal, especially with the looser and cheaper constructions. However, it`s easy to correct, by giving the carpet a haircut ! The best thing to do this with is proper napping shears - scissors specially made for the job

They make it easy to remove the ``bobbles``, but it is quite possible (but slower) to use a pair of ordinary, sharp scissors, held as near horizontal to the carpet surface as possible, and cut the bobbles from the surface.

This will not damage your carpet, but it will restore the appearance. Vacuum up the excess, and you will be proud of your 30 minutes work!

To avoid it occurring again, avoid wearing outdoor shoes on this type of carpet (especially high heels ), and upright vacuum cleaners with a rotating brush head.

I'm guessing that you have already padded up as much coffee as you can. If you had cream and sugar in the coffee your going to want to take water, pour it on the spill, and pad up what you can with a white towel.

What you have left is the tannins that are found in coffee and tea.

Whatever stain is left you can take out with hydrogen peroxide found at any department store or Walgreens, CVS etc. Pour or spray the peroxide on the coffee stain. Then take plastic wrap and cover the stain. Put something on top like a large book. Let it sit like that for 12 hours or so. See if the stain is gone. If not repeat.

Hydrogen Peroxide can be used on any organic (natural) color. Grass stains, blood, red wine etc. The plastic wrap deprives the peroxide of oxygen which allows it to work longer than if uncovered.

The brick dust has turned back to red clay mud. Break it up while it is dry and dry vac.

When no dust remains and carpet is still dry. Dry vac again.

Now; soap up one microfibre cloth; ring it out and go to work on removing any residual stains of the brick dye remaining. Lastly dry off with a dry clean white microfibre cloth. What remains if you have any carpet left after all the rub a dub suck and puff is a stain as per the defining verdict on all blots, marks and eye sores.

It is easier to remove a stain if you know the cause. Paint or nail polish need solvents. Fat stsins need detergent and hotter water to dissolve. Ink is difficult and will need a certain solvent like “ pen off”.

If you use hot water you tend to set the stain, if it is from something like coffee or wine so it is best to try using a stain removal soap like sard and gently working it with cold water and repeatedly absorbing the stain with a sponge.

First, if it got down to the subfloor, you’re screwed. Once wood gets soaked with urine, nothing short of a act of God is going to get rid of the smell.

Second, try SCOE 10x. It s an industrial strength enzymatic cleaner you can order online, that is light years better than all the others. Follow the instructions carefully Concentration matters. You can buy hypodermic needles on Amazon (I recommend 14-18 Gauge) to inject the SCOE under the carpet, into the underlayers. It will keep working as long as the area is kept damp.

You might need a few tries to get it all, but the stuff is amazing. If there is any hope at all, that’s it.

It is pricey, and you need a good supply to saturate the carpet. Just compare it in your mind to the cost of replacing the carpet.

You will also want a UV flashlight so you can find the exact spots that need treatment.

How much paint is there?

What color is the carpet?

First thoughts:

Denatured alcohol will dissolve the binder in acrylic paint. I’d suggest that for a small area, say, no bigger than about 36 square inches (6 inch x 6 inch). Even with that, it will be absolutely necessary that you ventilate, Ventilate, VENTILATE, VENTILATE. (OK?) If it’s larger, I’m not sure you could get enough ventilation to be safe. Danger: inhalation and/or fire! With adequate ventilation it will evaporate fast and leave no lingering odor. But you just can’t use too much of it (at least at once) in typical rooms.

Second thoughts:

We had some pros paint a couple of rooms of us once, and they spilled a good part of a gallon of paint onto the carpet. It took them a few attempts, but they got it all up where it was unnoticeable.

I was not there for the cleanup, but it did not smell like High-VOC paint thinner or anything.

I’ve read of people using other solvents: paint thinner, lacquer thinner, acetone - etc, but I’d caution as with the alcohol: they are very volatile and harmful to breathe.

Laundry detergent, water, and a professional carpet cleaning machine is another option.

These kinds of things get paint off of hands pretty well, so maybe it will work for carpet.

If your vacuum is really a Hoover, it might be very old and does not have much of a vacuum. So empty the bag and replace with a new one and clean or replace the filter just before the motor. If the vacuum feels low still, then buy a new one. You could also just buy a new one, if the vacuum is more than 20 years old, and save all that labour.

When the vacuum is working well, vacuum the area with the red dust and most should come out. Use a stiff brush to loosen any residual dust and vacuum again. If the stain still persists, spray the area with a foam carpet cleaner and vacuum again. Spray again and then brush with the stiff brush. Wait for it to dry and vacuum again. The carpet should not exhibit the red dust.

If the carpet is as old as those in my BIL’s house (35 Years), then pay to replace the carpet. That dust is ‘baked’ in.

If there was mould in the home that’s been removed, there could be a lot of spores in the fibres of carpets, mattresses, curtains, upholstery, etc., but they can mostly be vacuumed up, though it’s best to use a vacuum with a HEPA filter so you catch all the spores that you suck up.

Spores can be laundered out of most washable fibres, clothing, bedding, etc.

A thorough vacuuming should get most of them out of carpet and upholstery and you can of course have carpet and upholstered furniture cleaned professionally. Any scatter or accent rugs that can be washed should be washed.

Walls and ceilings can be vacuumed and so can floors, attics, etc.

Mattresses are quite costly and if you’re truly worried that the mattress is full of spores, there are mattress covers which are basically huge fabric envelopes that are usually used to fight dust mites or bedbugs, that can be purchased to cover the mattress. Anything that’s on it will be sealed inside once the cover is on it.

But you can also vacuum a mattress, top, bottom and on all sides and that is going to remove most mould spores.

I have a severe mould allergy so I take it pretty seriously but I’ve never worried much about the mattress, which is normally covered by bedding, even when there has been a mould problem, which there was on occasion in my old apartment units, which had serious plumbing issues.

Only the spores that become airborne are going to bother people. I once opened a can of tea leaves that had become mouldy - the can bottom was rusty. No problem until I disturbed the tea and a big cloud of dark dust - mould spores- went flying. I managed to avoid inhaling most of that but I had to take extra antihistamines that day.

But if you vacuum thoroughly and launder anything that can be laundered and keep surfaces damp dusted, then you’ll get rid of most of the mould spores that are around.

Another thing you can do that’ll help prevent mould spores from outside taking up residence is use an indoor air filtration system. Hot air furnace filters can be very high efficiency but most home furnaces can’t use a HEPA filter, which puts too much stress on the fan, so they’re not perfect. Many choose to add a room air cleaner and that’ll help but they can be costly devices.

Turns out you can easily build a DIY air cleaner that works better than most of the machines you can buy and it’s dead simple to do it.

All you need are 5 MERV 13 air filters that are 20x20x1″ size and a 20x20 box fan and some packaging or duck tape.

Tape the filters together to make a box with one open side and that is where the fan goes. Tape your box of filters to the back of the fan itself.

Now you have an extremely efficient air cleaner that doesn’t cost all that much and the filters last longer in this type of device than in a forced air furnace, so you probably only have to replaced them every six months or so. Buy the filters by the case and you can save a significant amount of money per filter. Filters might run you a hundred bucks a year if you change them every 6 months and the fans are not wildly expensive - they’re cheaper than the fancier ones for sure. The MERV 13 filters by 3M will also catch and remove smoke particles, which could be very useful given all the wildfires.

Plug ’er in and let ’er run all the time and you’ll have much cleaner indoor air than what’s outside.

Bear in mind that mould spores need moisture to grow. They must have a constant source of water or very high humidity in order to grow. So long as the home is dry, mould can’t grow.

Sorry dear, your carpets will never look new again. What people don’t realize is that carpet fibers get packed down from walking on them. These are called traffic lanes.

Also, soil is abrasive. The individual fibers will be scratched and reflect light differently. Think of using steel wool on eyeglasses. Same thing.

Unless you are very wealthy, and can get your carpets replaced all the time, the best you can do is to get them clean. Look at the water that comes out, even if professionally done!

We use carpets for comfort and insulation.

They will never look new again. You will also never look like a baby again either. The most important thing is removing the soil, dust mites, dead skin cells, and germs.

Usually 6 to 8 inches in from the edges of an area rug is all it's necessary to vacuum but if the regular vacuuming has been neglected you may need to carefully roll up the area rug and vacuum the entire floor area underneath.

Here’s how to clean a rug and remove stains without spending a fortune:

First, vacuum the rug on front and back to remove surface dirt and debris. Use the brush attachment to remove pet hair. Take the rug outside and lay flat on a waterproof surface. A driveway or patio is perfect.

If you’re using a store-bought rug shampoo, follow the instructions on mixing and on how to clean a rug. You can also make your own cleaner by mixing a few squirts of liquid dish soap into a bucket of warm water.

Hydrogen peroxide will remove it. I’m not sure about the 3% brown bottle, drug store stuff, but it’s worth a try. Just spray it on the spot with a spray bottle if you have some at home. You spray it on the stain, it will turn black, and slowly over the next several hours it will fade away. Sometimes it may need a second or third application over the next couple of days. The amazing thing about 12%, is that it will remove virtually any organic stain. That is to say, any stain that comes from a living source. So it also works on coffee, tea, blood, urine, feces, water stains and many mystery stains you may have given up on. Try it. It’s like magic.
