I have 2 - in 7th Grade I had some HORRIBLE teacher’s. My reading teacher did NOT want to pay attention to my IEP and let me do my written assignments on the Computer (until FINALLY she let me). Math - I struggled. My teacher did not teach in a way I could understand it so my parents had to reteach me everything and the teacher yelled at me sometimes (including once when I did not receive a Test to take for 15 minutes so I went up to her desk and asked for one - and I had my hand raised for 15 MINUTES). By the end of 7th Grade - I HATED school (which was a shock because up until then I had always LOVED school). Fast forward a few months to 8th Grade and I was still lacking Confidence from 7th Grade. I was NOT happy because of how 7th Grade had gone. In 8th Grade we did a Foreign Language (I chose Spanish) and I took Algebra. My Spanish teacher in 8th Grade was AMAZING. She recognized my Potential for learning a language (I had really been speaking Spanish since age 3 because I lived in Texas from when I was born til age 10). And my Algebra teacher was GREAT as well. By the end of 8th Grade, due to these 2 FABULOUS Teachers, who focused on rebuilding my Confidence rather than destroying it as my 7th Grade Teachers had done, I felt good about school again. And funny story…Last year (after not seeing my Spanish teacher for 17 years - because she helped to get me into Spanish my Junior year of HS) I had a surprise on Sunday. I was eating a donut in between church services. The piano player asks my to turn around so he can introduce me to someone. I finished my donut and turned around (and I had on a nametag). As soon as I turned around…I hear KRISTIN? His mom (the person he wanted to introduce me to) was my…8th GRADE SPANISH TEACHER (and THE BEST teacher I ever had). I say YES - and she and I reconnected easily. And in May when I needed a Reference done so I could be a Camp Counselor (I needed 3 but had 2 already being done) she said - “Give me a copy of the form and I’ll do it” so I did!!!!
