I arrived in Monaco having spent 1 year driving a Vespa around Europe without a helmet. I was stopped 3 times. This was in the 1960s. There were no sky-high condo buildings.

Today every square inch in Monaco has some tall building, there are security cameras everywhere and there are signs in front of the casino indicating no entrance for shorts, t-shirts,sneakers or cameras. Same sign in front of many hotels.

Monaco used to look like the rest of France, a nice little town. Today it is a place to park your yacht or your money for mostly older foreigners.

Paul Thereaux says it is the only place in his world travels where not a single person would answer any of his questions.

If you live there and you want to drive your Ferrari you can go 10 mph for about 4 blocks.
