It is more painful afterwards compared to when it is actually happening.
They use some sort of oil that makes your skin feel like it is burning, even though it isn’t.
It leaves ugly red scrapes down your back for a week or so.
For that week or so, showering can be painful, you can’t apply sunscreen or any sort of cream to your back.
Any contact other than your clothes is going to set your nerves tingling - God forbid if some funny person decides to slap you on the back.
Does it have health benefits? I’m personally not convinced - I felt far better after a cupping session, but that might be just me.
