I wasn’t keeping well for the last 2–3 week or so.
Last Friday was bad, and I had to run to emergency for a quick medical check-up. I was in pain since morning.
Many of you know that I have been living with my Cancer diagnosis since last 2 years , and therefore, we (husband and I) do not take any symptom lightly. We visit the doctor instantaneously if we feel anything is wrong.
So, we went to medical emergency at 6 in the evening. The receptionist noted all my symptoms which took an hour or so. (5 minutes of meeting her, and 55 minutes of waiting).
Around 7:15 pm, a nurse came in to check my vital stats, and asked us to wait.
We waited for till 9 when the main doctor came, and asked the same thing. i.e symptoms check. Please note that I was still in pain.
Meanwhile, my husband asked if I could be on saline water till the time, we have to wait for the things to finish. They put me on saline water, and did blood test.
Blood reports came by 11 pm in the night.
I don’t want to narrate the whole incident, but back and forth to the doctor and we were in hospital till 4 am in the morning with just a blood work done.
I swear, half of my problem was gone! I was soo stressed with the behavior of emergency department, that I almost forgot if I had some issue. I just wanted to go home!
AT 4 am they did a CT Scan, and it took another 3 hours to talk to the doctor about the reports. Phew! Finally, we returned back from hospital at 8 am in the morning with a pain killer. So, 14 hours stay in hospital without any bed, just to return with a paracetamol and a confused response from emergency doctors!
I know this might sound weird to people who read my answer regularly since I have said that healthcare is good in Canada. Yes, it’s good but there is a condition!!
Your conditions should be critical according to the doctors.
If they don’t think that your condition is bad, you will be thrown away to a corner to suffer. When I was in India, I would crib about how ‘sarkaari’ things move here, but our doctor visit in Canada last Friday broke all records!
At least, you get immediate attention in India, if you are willing to spend money! You don’t have that privilege in Canada. We have been to emergency 3–4 times in the last 30 months, and every time we had the same experience.
I hate Canadian healthcare system!!!
PS:- No new word today! I am just venting out my frustration through this answer.
