Remember this is your function, YOU are paying for it and you should get what you want.

I know bands that will play for a bowl of chilli and a couple of beers.
On the other hand, I guess Taylor Swift might ask for a the thick end of a million dollars.

Of course you just have to know your ring size and check in the stores or jewelries website for promotions. Stores have a lot of sales during the year and sometimes are better in store.
If you’re in the US, I recommend checking out gigmasters.com. They have a good list of performers and are arranged geographically. Enter “wedding bands” and your locality, and you get a description of the performers and prices.
I think it would be fun to hire a local band whose members go to the local high school or university. If anything, it would be memorable, haha!
But for an experienced band, depending on the duration, you can expect rates to range from $650–$10,000
Ask the bands you are interested in hiring. Charges vary hugely depending on how many members are in the band, how many instruments they play, how well known they are, how long they will be expected to play…
You can place an ad that you are looking, go to a local talent agency and ask or go to a venue that the band is playing at and try to talk to them about playing for your wedding. Remember, they more than likely will have a set fee and all members of the band and crew will need to be included in your # of meals needed.
Ask around for recommendations. Live bands will cost more than hiring a DJ and will need to have breaks during their ‘sets’ so will probably play recorded music duro g that time. They will have a limited ‘set time’ and may not be able to play specific songs your guests may request. You will also have to provide them with food & drinks.
