There are countless online platforms where you can improve your skills in coding on your own, but I would recommend joining a good placement preparation program like Placewit so that your efforts are more focused, and they have a good doubt clearance which will help you save a lot of time during placement preparation. I got placed at Gameskraft with more than 30 lakh CTC.

Before I joined Placewit:

There were many advertisements and marketing that say coding is easy, anyone can do it. Yes, this might be true for some people but for others it might take longer. I found coding really tough. There were a lot of times I lost concentration or got stuck with a problem for days. I tend to give up when I was stuck with a problem, hanging without proper guidance and finding it difficult to pick up the problem again or even newer problems.

At times, it even seemed hopeless. There was a lot of time I dropped coding and tried to pick it up later, and I would forget all the things I studied before and had to relearn everything again. It was very demotivating not being able to solve a problem which you had already solved before.

Finally decided to join Placewit:

As DSA is quite vast, it can seem daunting if you don't tackle it in an organized way. This is one of the main reasons I decided to join Placewit, as I could interact and compete with others similar to me. This helped me keep my focus and also the mentors are very knowledgeable and there were daily sessions to clear doubts. This helped me continuously improve each day and strengthen my coding skills.

My overall journey at Placewit:

During my time at Placewit, I had access to a topic-wise selection of important questions which are asked for interviews. I mainly focused my efforts on finishing them as they would cover the entire syllabus and only occasionally did competitive programming. But as I completed more problems, it naturally transferred to my competitive programming skills too. I did not give a lot of focus to competitive, as my time was limited for placement preparation. The practice problems provided by Placewit were thorough and finishing them will give you a very good chance at landing a good company. But if you have additional time then you can focus on competitive programming as well. The mentors will help you with that also.

My preparation strategy for placements:

I mostly followed just what was outlined by Placewit’s placement preparation course. The course was structured around 6 months and this included everything I needed during my placement season, from DSA and projects to mock interviews. The first few months were mainly focused on strengthening my DSA concepts and getting more familiar with C++, STL libraries and so on. It started from basic data structures like Arrays and also covered advanced topics on Graphs and Dynamic Programming as well. Special priority was given to important topics like Linked List, Tree, Graph and DP. The practice problems for all these topics were hand selected ones which had been asked in previous interviews, and sure enough most companies ask these questions directly or a variation of these problems. After finishing DSA, we worked on enhancing our resume by building projects. For me, it was mainly WebD projects based on Javascript and NodeJs, but we were given a choice to do Machine Learning also. At the end there were a lot of mock interviews, daily practice problems and study material on core CS subjects, revision notes, HR questions, which helped in further practice and in keeping our memory good. Mock interviews really helped us sharpen our presentation of all topics and helped keep the answers precise and accurate. This practice was very helpful during the actual interviews.

My experience during placements:

The placement drive for my college started in early May of 2021, and I was trying to get placed in the early days itself as the companies with the biggest packages visited in the first month itself. The drive was kicked off by none other than Google. I was among the few from my college who cleared their online round, but I wasn't able to clear their interviews. The questions were tough but they didn't feel as daunting as before.

The next company I sat for was Gameskraft, and I was able to get placed here with a CTC of 30-35 LPA because of all the practice I did at Placewit for the last 6 months as most of the questions asked in the interview were variations of the ones I had already solved and revised. I was the only student from my college that they selected. It was an amazing feeling for me.

Taking the placement course from Placewit was hugely helpful for me.

I learned a lot during the classes and I was able to practice a lot. I also got help with making good projects, which were very helpful in building my resume. Resources for core subjects, HR questions were provided which included revision notes. These saved me a lot of time and streamlined my preparation. And the regular mock interview made me more confident while facing the interviews and I was able to avoid any mistakes.
