What is the best rumour you have heard about yourself?

In 1994, I worked in a telephone call center. One day, I gave a ride home to a woman who worked in the area that controlled call flow.

Jeannette was in her early 60s and married, and I was 29 and living with my parents at the time. It was a perfectly innocent ride home. I just dropped her off and never thought about it. She wasn’t a friend of mine, and I never drove her anywhere again.

Four years later, I found out at a party that everyone I worked with thought I was having a long-term affair with this woman (the entire previous 4 years)…over one car ride! Someone saw her get into my car, and the story grew from there.

I wondered over the years why people frequently asked where Jeanette was when I’d show up at an after-work social event. I never put it together!!
