The most unfair punishment I have received in school actually happened the other day, this was one of the only punishments I have received in school because I have always been really shy:

On this day we had a really strict substitute teacher who everyone didn’t respect and messed around with. I was sat doing my work and suddenly need to go to the bathroom so I ask to go. The reply I received was “no Hannah you cannot because you have been silly and disrespectful all lesson” which I was not so I felt quite hurt by this because I was the opposite of silly and disrespectful. So I continue with my work as long as could mange and ask again and say that I really need to go and I get the reply “tough Hannah you should have gone in the designated break”.

In the end I end up saying if you don’t let me go I am going to have to go without your permission. So I walk out of the room because I am not going to soil myself and I go to the bathroom. I then walk straight back to the lesson and get told to wait outside and that she was going to call a senior member of staff to remove me from the lesson, this scared me because I had never been in this situation before but I waited as instructed. I awaited for about 15 minutes and the principal came to the classroom and at first spoke to me and I told him that I had to go to the bathroom and was not allowed to go. He then asked the substitute teacher we had to come out of the class and he spoke to her and asked her what happened and she said “Hannah had been rude and disrespectful all lesson and left the room without my permission”. The principal then told me to go to his office. So I walked to the office with the principal and he was saying that the way I had behaved was wrong and that he was disappointed that he had been asked to remove me from lesson.

When we get to his office I am told that I will be working at the desk outside his office for the rest of the day and that he would be phoning my parents to let them know that I will be in after school detention that day. I was then feeling really bad about myself and was very upset but accepted this was what was going to happen and there wasn’t much I could do about it. So I just sat there and got my work done.

The end of the day came and I was told take my things and report to the main hall for my detention and to show the teacher my detention card. I walk over there extremely nervous and ashamed of myself and when I arrived I was greeted by one of my teachers who seemed surprised to see me there and she told me to put my phone in the box and to sit in complete silence and to face the front. More and more people came in and were told the same thing until everyone had arrived. Then we were told that the detention would last for 2 hours and then we were told to sit and reflect.
