When my Mom passed away I had to leave my home at a moment’s notice to take care of her estate.
Before I left, I walked over to my neighbor’s home (we had only met 3 times) and asked if she would be willing to feed my cats until I could find someone who could take it on for a few weeks while I was gone.
My neighbor grabbed me in a hug and told me not to worry. Until I got back, she would consider my cats and my home as her own and take care of everything until I was able to come back. Even though I barely knew her, I handed her my key and was off not knowing what I would return to.
When I finally got back, I walked into a home that had a full refrigerator, had been cleaned to a level I never ever did, and I swear my cats had put on weight! She had been at my house for hours every single day so my cats wouldn’t be lonely and decided that when I got home I would have nothing to do but put my bags down and go on with life.
We became great friends, and when she passed a few years later, I made sure that her home was in order for her family just like she made sure mine was in order for me.
I miss her.
