I once was offered a job in a distant city that would have been a big promotion but I turned it down, partly because I was happy where I was and partly because something seemed “off” about the man I would have been working for. He was very disappointed and lied about me to my then-bosses (we were all part of the same media group), saying I had said things in my interview that I never said. My bosses believed me and all went on well in the job I decided to stay in.

A few months later, the lying dude was fired from his very high position for having sex with an assistant, in his office, during the workday. He was discovered by a colleague who walked in on them through the closed-but-not-locked door. Very sweet revenge and confirmation of my good judgment — and I didn’t have to do a thing. Karma took care of it all.
