November 17, 2016.
Another average day. People worldwide will surf the internet looking for articles to read, games to play, and videos to watch.
On this day, a child named Dane will upload his very first YouTube video, titled “0 subscriber specal”.
The entirety of the video is a kid saying that he currently has no subscribers, and he asks the people viewing the video to please subscribe to his YouTube channel.
Nothing special, really. Sure, it’s cute, but it’s been done before.
Not even a day later, his next video is released:
“1 subs yas”
In the video we see an elated Dane on camera. He proceeds to tell us, with excitement shaking in his voice, that he has gained his very first subscriber: his grandma. He then goes on to profusely thank his grandma for all the support that she has shown him.
It’s adorable; but that isn’t all.
Within days, Dane’s YouTube channel had gone viral. By November 20, 2016, Dane had 20,000 subscribers, and his subscribers continued to skyrocket. People on social media, the news- no one could get enough of Dane.
Hundreds of thousands of people subscribed to Dane within a three-week span.
Just as a comparison: That’s more followers than Sean Kernan.
In his video called “1 subs yas” you can tell by Dane’s voice that he’s legitimately excited that he has a subscriber, even if it is just his grandma.
I can’t imagine how ecstatic he was when he got two subscribers, much less almost 400 thousand.
My faith in humanity has been restored.
