I have had two memorable experiences with Craigslist. The first one was crazy funny. I had listed an armoire for sale and had the normal scam people try to get me to give my phone number, etc., but, I finally got a legitimate interested party. The guy was going to drive 29 miles to come and pick up the armoire. My husband told him to make sure he had a truck as it was a big piece of furniture. He assured him that he had a sufficient vehicle.
The guy arrives at the house in a Hyundai Sonata.
Naturally, my husband was concerned and reminded the guy that it is a large piece of furniture. The guy’s response was, “It’s all good, it’ll fit”. So, after about 30 min my husband comes out front to find this.
This guy legit drove the 29 miles home on backstreets (his stated plan). We checked the news for a couple of days. Seems he got home safe.
The second experience was a different kind of crazy. There is app called Nextdoor where people in neighborhoods can post anything related to the neighborhood. Our neighborhood had recently been experiencing front porch thefts a lot. Well there was a neighbor who had posted that her newly painted outdoor table and chairs had been taken overnight. She posted a pic of the set.
I hadn’t been on Craigslist for several months as I have an issue with buying too much furniture. For whatever reason had decided to browse the site for a bit that afternoon. What do you know, I come across an outdoor table and chair set for sale. It was the same hideous lime green that the set in the Nextdoor posting was. So I spend several minutes comparing the pics to make sure. They WERE the same one!
Anyway, after replying to her theft post, and several neighbors claiming they would retrieve the stolen items, I felt like I saved the day! Her table and chairs are now back on her front porch.
I had a hand crafted wind chime disappear from my front porch several years ago. I could have sworn my kids or husband must have accidentally broken it and didn’t want to tell me for fear I would get upset. They always denied it, but nothing else made sense, until now. Some thief stole it and sold it on Craigslist for drug money! Ugh.
