Pepperoni pizza.

I like pizza just fine. I like pepperoni, too. But don't combine them.

Look, I get it. It's the most popular type of pizza. Some places have come up with a pepperoni lover's pizza with double or even triple the amount. Every time I go to some event where pizza is brought for the crowd, there's several pepperoni pizzas there, and maybe one or two other kinds. You have your pizza. You enjoy it by yourself. You have my blessing.

To me, however, pepperoni on a pizza is crazy talk. Why? Because it's cooked, and when pepperoni is cooked, grease spills out of it, slicking up the pizza, turning the cheese into a nasty reddish-orange covered wasteland. The pepperoni overpowers the flavors of the sauce, the cheese, the dough, and every other topping that may try to share that waste of a pizza.

Pepperoni is great when it's freshly sliced and placed, at room temp, on a cracker with a slice of pepper jack cheese.

I'll stick with bacon pizza or chicken or, yes, even a ham and pineapple. It will taste far better than any pepperoni pizza could dream.
