Salads. I know there are a lot of ways to prepare a salad (hot, cold, etc), and endless variations of ingredient combinations but after trying most if not all by now at age fifty I can finally just admit I don’t like salads. I might allow every once in a while a salad made almost exclusively with tomatoes and cheese, like a Greek salad (the way the true Greeks eat it, mind you — which does not include any leafy greens). But I just don’t like any kind of leafy salad with greens of any kind. They are ridiculously ubiquitous, served in so many places from restaurants (coming most often as a mediocre side, a bland afterthought) to conferences and wedding venues. Most of the time very little thought has been put into them by the preparer; they are just there to fill one up and be a token “healthy” dish. I’m done. I recently found out my grandmother felt the same way about salad …. so now I don’t feel so weird to admit this. Aside from leafy salads, I also dislike potato salad, slaws or ANY kind of pasta salad. I regret the many years of attempting to eat these things believing that I “should” because they were “healthy”, “easy” or “everyone likes them”. I will not be eating any more salads.
