Profile - 87/78/77 - mechanical engineer

CAT percentile -99.51 (94.4/98.66/99.46)

There were three male profs- M1,M2,M3

M1 - How are you Pavan?

Me- Great Sir , how are you ?

M1- Nice, So tell me about your journey through BE and which subjects you liked and a little bit about your workex at Atlas copco.

Me - Told about my projects in college, my interest in f1, favourite subjects ( RAC, material sci, manufacturing, ice),participation in SAE SUPRA, Research paper and lastly told about my job at Atlas Copco i.e handling the Hand Pneumatic tools division's stock building.

M1- What sector does Atlas Copco belong to ?

Me Engineering Solutions broadly and there are four areas - Compressor technique, Vacuum Technique, Power Technique and Industrial Techniques

M1- Why do people say that india is an agricultural economy?

Me- Told that eve. though the GDP contribution by Service and manufacturing sector is higher the no. of people associated with Agricultural sector are higher.

M1- So the per capita income must be low in agriculture right?

Me- Yes sir the logic dictates that it should be low.

M1 - Tell me the difference between Pneumatic and Hydraulic solutions

Me - Told about the cost effectiveness of Pneumatic solutions and the hydraulic solutions being used for larger forces.

M1- Why does a pneumatic drill give sudden and quixk impact as compared to hydraulic?

Me- Told about the atoms being spread out and the compression being more in pneumatic

M1 - Which has more compression and by what percentage ?

Me- More in pneumatic but if i have to guess then it would be less than half of the compression in pneumatic

M1- Properties needed for shaft of a hydraulic cylinder?

Me- Toughness and even though wear being less than that in automobile parts , you need parts which dont wear

M1- What us the process done to increase the surface hardness?

Me- Case hardening i.e. heat treatment

M1- What about surface finish?

Me- fine finish is obtained through lapping and honing.

M1 - What is the abrasive in case of lapping and honing ..the paste or the job that is rubbed on the part?

(Here's where i went a bit wrong , the answer should have been paste which i later realised.)

M2 took over

Me - Hello sir

M2 - Pavan are you standing or sitting?

Me - I am sitting sir, i have done this different setup to my laptop which gives me a wider angle just like a selfie camera

M2 - Nice, I appreciate the efforts that you took Pavan :)

M2- So you said you have give ops as first preference... How did you come to like this management field?

Me- Told about mybexposure to business from childhood and the management positions that i had in various events which inclined me more towards ops

M2- So have you given CAT before ?

Me - Yes, I gave it last year but i didn't get the colleges that I wanted

M2 - Ok so why did you not do a 3 year degree , it would have saved you a year before mba

Me- told about the interest in manufacturing sector before graduation. And that i realized that i want to do an mba in 3rd year which coincided with me giving CAT.

M2 - So you have done an internship in Tata motors, what was your role

Me- Spare parts management in Harrier BIW Plant.

M2 - Did they give Ppo ?

Me - No sir it was an unpaid internship

M2 - Can you tell me about this Make a difference thing you are doing?

Me- Told about how i go to my village often and the level of education there being disheartening. etc. so i gave 2 rounds of interviews to get into mad and i am fundraising for them now.

M2- Pitch to us. 😂😂

Me - 5 secs please

M2- Ok no problem take your time

Me- Pitched

M2- Ok tell me what you do in leisure time Pavan

Me - 1.) F1

2.) Reading novels etc.

3.) Like to watch sitcoms for leisure

M2 - One book that you would recommend to me?

Me- A small book named Animal Farm by George Orwell... gave an answer to why too.

M2- Favourite sitcom ?

Me - Thats a difficult one but i would say The Office , cuz of its unique concept and the actors like rainn wilson etc

M3 suddenly
