The Mamas and the Papas were unique because they were a quartet, of two men and two women. It gave them a sound nobody else had. Most groups were all men and a few were all women, but The M&P had a blended sound of men and women. It made them truly different and special. Civil Wars, while together, had a unique sound of one man and one woman, and they sounded very good, but the quartet sound of The M&P was still full and incomparable.

Having a separate account allows you to see the results of all your hard work and keep your money separate so you're less tempted to spend it.

- Rock bands are loud and annoying, especially when they first start out. It is hard to have a rock band when you live in an apartment or a very dense neighborhood. Most Californians live in houses with garages, which mitigates the annoyance factor. If you live in an apartment you can rent an expensive rehearsal space, or even a storage unit to rehearse. I would have to say the Grateful Dead. They've been popular amongst 3 generations, and the way they're still popular, working on a 4th..
Explore the music of these artists, then good luck to you. All those are well known groups that perform in harmony and do so very well.
The Mamas & the Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, The Eagles, Queen, Pentatonix , ABBA , Fleetwood Mac, The Association, Blue Rodeo, The 5th Dimension,
Many of them, and on my list are /almost/ “ white" bands/musicians: examples:
The Eagles, The Doors, Van Halen, Metallica, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Beach Boys, Guns N Roses, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Santana, Journey /Steve Perry/, Santana, Runaways, Bangles…
Hard to choose??? At least some examples. All are famous enough.
If by “versatile" you mean a band venturing into numerous music genres, then it's definitely Hawkwind. Starting out as a heavy psychedelic band, they encroached upon hard rock, heavy metal, progressive rock/metal, boogie, punk and new wave, doing that as long ago as in 1970s. And adding free jazz to the above-mentioned blend it gives you he idea how musically-flexible they were. If that wasn't enough, in 1980s they tried to “compete" with NWOBHM, putting out hybrid electronic/hard rock/metal albums. If that wasn't special, their 90s albums combined hard rock and rave/techno-like numbers. Some

They seem to be a genre on its own.
The Beatles music covered a very wide range of styles and were also one of the most successful bands the world has known.
There are other versatile bands but I think the Beatles stand out with noticeable tendency to avoid repeating anything they had done before.
The legendary heavy metal band Motley Crue.

I’ve been a massive admirer of the brothers Ron and Russell Mael, better known as the band Sparks for nearly 50 years. These brothers are probably the least known and appreciated artists of stature with the masses of music listeners from California. However, they are highly regarded and appreciated by their fellow musicians, from Kurt Cobain to Morrissey, from Depeche Mode to Faith No More, Bjørk, Jimi Sommerville, Bernard Butler, Ian McCullogh, Thurston Moore, Soft Cell, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure. I’ve been a massive admirer of the brothers Ron and Russell Mael, better known as the band Sparks for nearly 50 years. The list is endless.
Now, what makes those brothers so special and why are they operating so much just under the radar? The answer is quite simple; they do not follow any trends. Instead, they create trends, they invent new music, simply because they want to and they can. Since their very first (official) release in 1971 as Halfnelson, they have always been ahead of their time, creating music the way they felt was right and never compromising with the styles that were popular at a certain era.
They have released 23 official albums, which includes only one live album, a cooperation with Franz Ferdinand as FFS and a musical conducted for the Swedish Radio about Ingmar Bergman. They’ve been labelled as avant-garde, glam rock, disco, rock, cabaret, classical, minimalistic, theatrical and Ron Mael’s lyrics are regarded to be at the level of Leonard Cohen and Morrissey.
Example? “You mentioned Kant and I was shocked. You know, where I come from, none of the girls have such foul tongues” (from Hasta Mañana, Monsieur, 1974).
Despite their lack of massive success, they have always been able to survive by having just that one hit single or album in one place at the time. In 1974, they were huge in Britain and the European continent but were soon forgotten again, a year and a half later. From that time on, they have always been temporarily popular, somewhere, sometime. Their two most recent albums “Hippopotamus” (2017) and “A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip “ (2020) actually both reached #7 in the British album charts, last year, the first time they had a top 10 album in the UK again since 1975.
Last year, two movies in which they play a central role were released. Edgar Wright made the wonderful documentary The Sparks Brothers, which has a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and French director Leos Carax made the movie Annette, written by the Mael brothers. Both projects resulted in a huge increase of their fan base.
For those of you who have no idea about Sparks but have become intrigued, you might be interested in the most complete website about them that I run: FanMael.

Talent, persistence, and connections!
At risk of sounding trivial, I would say Queen is one of them.
There is so much to choose from and they have so much to offer that one can literally find music for all tastes! I guess, this arises from the very different musical backgrounds the four members brought in: rock and roll (Taylor, May), Motown (Deacon), classical music (Mercury) etc.
Let me point out something I deem very important, though: Queen megahits (Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, Somebody To Love, Another One Bites The Dust, etc.) are surely widespread and almost everybody knows them, that is why I would very much rat

Let me point out something I deem very important, though: Queen megahits (Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, Somebody To Love, Another One Bites The Dust, etc.) are surely widespread and almost everybody knows them, that is why I would very much rather delve into deep cuts. In my opinion, there are so many hidden gems that they don't always come to the surface. Here is a good chance to give them the credit they truly deserve.
A few examples:
- Are you into hard stuff? Well, have fun with Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll (sung by Roger Taylor), Ogre Battle, Brighton Rock, Stone Cold Crazy, Princes of the Universe, Gimme The Prize, Dead On Time.
- How about a little country? Apart from '39, you may be interested in Leaving Home Ain't Easy (sung by Brian May) and the delightful, vaudeville-flavoured Dreamers' ball.
- Are you looking for tear-jerking ballads? You’re spoiled for choice: the famous Love of My Life, but also I highly recommend Lily of the Valley, You Take My Breath Away, Jealousy, Is This The World We Created?
- There are even Caribbean influences in their music! Have a listen to Who needs you?
- Power Ballad: anticipating trends by a handful of years, here is the hissing and roaring It's Late. Honorable mention: Sail Away Little Sister (sung by May).
- Pop songs? You got it. They’re mostly Freddie Mercury’s work, the most "frivolous" one from this point of view: tell me what you think of In Only Seven Days, Delilah or Back Chat.
- Ragtime, swing, anyone? Have fun with unusual pieces like Bring Back That Leroy Brown, Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, or the delicious Seaside Rendez-vous.
- There is also room for blues! This is perhaps an influence that somehow became fainter and fainter through their years, but still noticeable in many Queen songs! How about something with a jazzy flair? Here is My Melancholy Blues. Or perhaps something rougher, down-to-earth? Have a blast with the beautiful Sleeping On The Sidewalk (sung by Brian May).
- The years passed by and new musical trends surfaced. During the early 80s, Queen didn't want to be outdone and so they started playing disco music. I understand this may sound out of their league (lots of hardcore fans did not appreciate it, either, back then): however, should you like disco, have a listen to Staying Power, Body Language and Cool Cat.
- Rockabilly: as huge fans of Elvis Presley, Queen did not want to lose a chance to praise the King. Apart from the super famous Crazy Little Thing Called Love, tell me what you think of Man on The Prowl.
I left out the most popular songs on purpose, because like I said they may sound trivial. I believe these are the true hidden gems, though this list is only indicative and does not have to be taken as the ultimate one. Rather, it may be taken as an example of Queen’s eclecticism as well as their musical mastery.
Have fun!
The Eagles
In 1971, singer Linda Ronstadt was looking for a backup band, enlisting studio musicians Don Henley and Glenn Fry, among others. This assemblage helped Ronstadt make her eponymous album, and then Henley and Fry formed The Eagles or simply, Eagles. Released in 1972, their first album included the hit singles “Take It Easy,” “Witchy Woman” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling.” Desperado, their second release, soon followed with more hits, “Tequila Sunrise” and “Desperado.” Along the way, the band added guitarist Joe Walsh, who can rip on the guitar like the devil, evidence of which can be found

It depends on your taste in music, but a couple of my favorites are Starcrawler and Young the Giant. Yes, those are technically bands, not musicians, but if you like alternative music or rock you should definitely give them a listen.

Talented artists who dominated the charts from the mid 60s into the 80s.
That’s an intriguing question! I’ve seen lots of great shows over the past 55 or so years & most have been great-to-fantastic! I saw them many times in the late 60’s & they never disappointed! Great albums, but on another level entirely on stage! Surprisingly, I never thought their live album captured what I heard & saw each time I saw them? The Grateful Dead are famous for their live performances, rarely playing anything the exact same way twice! While I’m a big fan of their studio efforts (an opinion not always shared by everyone), there’s no doubt that their live shows were an entirely different thing! Some shows were better than others, but when they were “On”, they were as good as it gets! The current band that I truly enjoy seeing live is Dawes, a younger band from Southern California! I have all their records & have seen them live 4 times. They have evolved each time I’ve seen them, as they continue to develop & expand their stage presence & repertoire. They’ve learn to stretch out their songs, improvise a bit & have become increasingly dynamic & explosive! They’re a terrific live group & I look forward to them eventually releasing a live record!

California has produced some good bands, but they don’t have a monopoly.
I was going to say Thin Lizzy and UFO but they were both in the past
However
I am currently listening to Queen Greatest Hits vol3 and the live version of The Show Must Go On with Elton John on vocals shows how good old Reg is given a decent song - actually i prefer that version to Freddie singing it

Allow me to introduce you to what in my mind is the single greatest rock band in the world today: The heroic band of freedom fighters from a ruined future, the band single-handedly bringing the rock opera back from the dead, the sum total of every awesome thing about the 80s rolled into one band…

Okay, okay, so that’s a cool pic, but it doesn’t completely explain them. That’ll take a bit, but follow along and you will get rich rewards.
Basically, take the plot of classic sci-fi novels and movies such as 1984 and Blade Runner…
Add the characters from the classic ’80s video game “MegaMan” (albeit with kickassery turned up to 11)…
This is Panther, unleashing an epic high note scream that would destroy the throats of ordinary mortals… a note he hits, without fail, EVERY NIGHT.
…and bring Queen back together to turn it all into the greatest multi-album rock opera epic of all time.
Yes, they did a live Queen cover album and it’s awesome.
Interested in hearing more? Check out their second album, “Act II: The Father of Death”—a prequel to their first, story-wise, and their best album thus far, IMHO. In terms of individual tracks of awesomeness, though:

Los Angeles has become the hub of music recently. Musicians from all over the world try their career thereby creating a band themselves or being a part of some popular bands. To name a few bands that are best at what they do, Flash Pants tops the list. It is one of the most renowned bands that I have ever come across. I have seen several bands from Los Angeles but there is no one like them. You should definitely give them a try.
I can think of several, but I’ll go with Pere Ubu. They’re great & really weird on record, but what they do live is a singular experience. I can’t even really describe it, let alone imagine a way to properly record the disorienting sonic environment they create.
