KASS (2021): "The DPRK’s planned economy is fundamentally different from the capitalist economy in which spontaneity, economic imbalance and anarchy of production are proved, as the latter aims at the increase of profit based on capitalist ownership."
KASS (2019): "Unlike the capitalist economy which is geared to make money, the socialist independent economy aims to meet the demands of the country and the people. So an independent economy should naturally be developed in such a diversified and integral manner..."
"The Three Red Flag Revolution is a mass movement to accelerate the building of socialism and communism by conducting the ideological, technical and cultural revolutions vigorously in keeping with the requirements for modelling the whole society on the Juche idea." KJI, 1986.
“ The Three Great Revolutions were officially proclaimed at the fifth congress of the Korean Workers' Party in November 1970. It consists of the ideological revolution that revolutionises people; the technological revolution that revolutionises nature and the cultural revolution that revolutionizes society - emphasizing that these three revolutions are continuous in nature and must continue until a communist society is established. It is argued that these revolutions must continue until a form of society is achieved which is superior to the socialist one, that the agrarian collectives and private production were abolished in 1958, that the socialist system was established... but since it is not yet communist, the socialist revolution and socialist construction must be advanced.
In the three great revolutions, the following objectives must be achieved: In the ideological revolution, man must be moulded into a communist man through social education; in the technological revolution, the contradiction between tough and easy, mental and physical, agricultural and industrial work must be resolved and women must be freed from domestic work. In the cultural revolution, all workers must acquire the knowledge necessary to take production into their own hands and establish a socialist lifestyle and a socialist production style. Today, these three revolutions are still part of social life and campaigns such as the "Three Revolutionary Flag Movement" are regularly initiated to promote these three revolutions. A 3 Revolutionary mass movement started around Feb 1973, when young workers with political armaments and equipped with modern science and technology were sent to every factory, every farm and every enterprise in order to clean up with the conservatism and technocratic tendency of older cadres and to break their political power."
Within the state machinery of the DPRK, raw and other materials, land, production-related buildings, means of transport, posts and telecommunications, and all other means of production are placed under the collective ownership of the working people."
"Only when cooperative ownership is converted into all-people ownership, it is possible to eliminate the differences between the urban and rural areas, and between the working class and the peasantry, and achieve the complete victory of socialism."
"The state directs concern to building up the national enterprises directly involved in the rural economy such as farming machine stations, irrigation stations, seed-selection farms, seed-processing stations, agricultural experiment stations, breeding stock farms…the two forms of ownership are being combined organically in the direction of cementing the direct relations of production between industry and agriculture and improving the role of the leadership of all-people ownership over cooperative ownership."
Understanding Korea 5 : Economy (2016)
Contrary to the myth of dependence the U.S.S.R attempted to undermine the DPRK's development, "... Soviet delegate not only hinted at criticisms of the Five Year Plan, but made it clear that the Soviet Union expected a certain type of interdependence between the two countries..."
"The Korean emphasis on self-reliance, the so-called Juche principle, based on political mass mobilization, was obviously not to the taste of the Soviet delegate..."
DPRK's strict rejection of Khrushchev's international division of labour and adherence to self-reliance deteriorated relations with the USSR. In 1962 essential materials, spare parts, and other important elements of Soviet-Korean cooperation were withheld.
"For the DPRK the withholding of material in the sphere of military cooperation (until 1965, according to some western sources) was particularly dangerous because of its special situation with regard to the South." [Socialist Korea, 1976 pp. 180-185]
In Aug 1964 the CPSU through Pravda 'publicly' attacked the DPRK for having hosted the Second Asian Economic Seminar in the previous month. A Sept edition of Rodong Sinmun responded: "Why is Pravda so malignant and angry at the success of the Pyongyang economic seminar?"
It is because Pravda is displeased with the resolute anti-imperialist, anti-colonialist struggle of the Asian and African people ,the spirit of self-reliance surging among them and the ever-strengthening militant unity of the people of the regions.
However the truth cannot be covered. The slander will remain long as slander." (M Jahanghir Khan, Ever Lighting Beacon, in Global Farmy Songun Internationale, p.30) The Modern Revisionists and People’s Korea by Dr Dermot Hudson
