My experience with Germans…..

Very professional, straight forward and honest in general.

This one episode I recount to everyone whenever the occasion arises… I had to travel to Bremen to pickup my car which I had shipped from US and to drive it to Norway where I was working at that time.

I took a taxi from the airport and told him to take me to Bremenhaven. This was 1991, way before the internet and google maps etc.

We were on the way to the port when suddenly the taxi driver turned the meter off. I was a bit surprised expecting some underhand cash demand coming up so I asked him why he did that.

He replied that he was supposed to take the last exit towards the port but he missed it so he turned off the meter as in all fairness he couldn’t charge me for his mistake.

That just blew my mind. I was a stranger in a strange city, the guy could have taken me for a ride and made a huge bill of the trip but he didn’t and I have praised him for that ever since, every chance I get…… as I am doing right now :).
