Difference between Bill, Law and Act

If our government want to make law on a particular subject then a bill is introduced in parliament after getting the approval of both houses of parliament, the bill is sent for the assent of president. After getting the assent of president bill becomes an Act then our Government implement that Act as a law from a specific date.

Our Government wanted to implement GST system in India. For this 122nd Constitution amendment (GST) bill 2014 was introduced in Lok Sabha by the then Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely in December 2014. This bill got the approval of both houses of Parliament in 2016 and after getting the assent of President in September 2016 this bill became 101st constitution amendment (GST) Act, 2016. Union Government applied this Act with effect from 1st July 2017. This means GST laws became applicable w.e.f 1st July 2017.
