- Japanese brand Android phones are really, really terrible... Sharp, Fujitsu, Sony (with some exceptions) phones are just terrible.
- Apple’s clever strategy. Apple made an exclusive deal with one of the 3 major carriers in Japan, the “SoftBank” (the smallest carrier in Japan at the time), which made them market the iPhone aggressively to get an edge. Then they later sold the iPhones to the other 2 carriers and let them compete to capture the iPhone market.
- Which comes to the next point… SoftBank marketed the iPhone so aggressively that it offered the iPhone for free with a 2 year contract. This was unprecedented.
- Apple’s aestheticism appeal to Japan’s aestheticism, which makes sense because Jobs sense of aesthetics was probably somewhat influenced by Japan. Apple’s ease of use and user-friendliness is a breath of fresh air to the often convoluted and confusing user-interface in typical Japanese gadgets.
