What does "bow my knees" mean in Ephesians 3:14?

Ephesians 3:14 (KJV) - For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

What cause?

Again we turn back to previous verses and find the cause to be…

John 18:37 (KJV) - Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Christ.

As we make our journey through this world of woe our focus needs to be on Christ.

Just as the focus of Christ when speaking with Pilate was on humanity.

But what cause did Pilate have his focus upon?

That is answered best within the unwritten dialog Pilate had with his wife that night.

PILATE: Hi honey, I’m home.

WIFE: Did you get my message.

PILATE: Yes dear.

WIFE: And?

PILATE: And what?

WIFE: What did you do about Jesus?

PILATE: Who?

WIFE: Jesus! The man I had the dream about.

PILATE: Oh, Jesus?

WIFE: Yes! You let Him go, right?

PILATE: Go?

WIFE: Yes, you released Him.

PILATE: Well, not exactly.

WIFE: What does that mean?

PILATE: What are we having for dinner tonight?

WIFE: DO NOT change the subject. What did you do about Jesus?

PILATE: Well, the people were heading toward a riot.

WIFE: And?

PILATE: I appealed to their reasoning power.

WIFE: And?

PILATE: Are you aware that Ceasar could cause us great trouble if the peace is not kept?

WIFE: Yes, but let’s get back to Jesus, what did you do?

PILATE: The people were not being very reasonable.

WIFE: So?

PILATE: So I had no choice.

WIFE: What does that mean?

PILATE: I came up with a plan. You know Barabbas and all the trouble he has caused?

WIFE: Who doesn’t?

Mark 15:7 (KJV) - And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

PILATE: Since the people knew what great harm Barabbas had done I was certain that my plan would work.

John 18:39 (KJV) - But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

PILATE: I gave them a choice between Barabbas and Jesus. It was a real no-brainer.

WIFE: And?

PILATE: I couldn’t believe my ears.

WIFE: Why?

PILATE: They chose Barabbas.

WIFE: What?

PILATE: Yeah, they chose Barabbas. My plan failed.

WIFE: So then, what did you do with Jesus.

PILATE: I thought to have Him flogged and released.

Luke 23:16 (KJV) - I will therefore chastise him, and release him.

WIFE: That would be horrible. He is innocent.

PILATE: I know. But what do you do when you have a riot on your hands?

WIFE: So you punished an innocent man?

PILATE: Well, yes and no.

WIFE: What does that mean.

PILATE: He did get punished but that was not sufficient for the people.

WIFE: What do you mean?

John 19:10-12 (KJV) -

10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?

11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

PILATE: I tried.

WIFE: Tried?

PILATE: Yes, tried. But I had no choice.

WIFE: No choice?

PILATE: Yes.

WIFE: You are the governor of this region.

PILATE: I know.

WIFE: You are the choice.

PILATE: Not when the people begin to riot.

WIFE: So what did you do.

PILATE: I got a basin of water to wash my hands in front of them all.

WIFE: Why?

Matthew 27:24 (KJV) - When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

PILATE: To symbolize what I was about to do.

WIFE: Which was?

PILATE: I was astonished at the response of the people.

Matthew 27:25 (KJV) - Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

WIFE: Are you telling me what I think you are telling me?

PILATE: Yes.

WIFE: No!

PILATE: I crucified Jesus.

No matter who you are.

Pilate.

Hitler.

You.

Me.

We will all one day, bow the knee.

Philippians 2:10-11 (KJV) -

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

It will be the same for the lost as it is for the saved.

To bow the knee now brings eternal salvation.

John 6:37 (KJV) - All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

To bow the knee later brings the second death.

Revelation 21:8 (KJV) - But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

But please note exactly who our knee will be bowed to.

Ephesians 3:14 (KJV) - For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Just as was the focus of Jesus Himself as He turned all of everything to His Father.

John 8:54-55 (KJV) -

54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
