I can write a book on this subject! I’ve been babysitting kids for over twenty years and one of the things I love about my job is the funny things kids say and do.

  1. When my son was a freshman in high school, I used to babysit two sisters. I have been friends with their mom for many years so our families were around each other all the time. They loved to wait for my son to get home from school to play with them, but sometimes he had after school activities. One day, the younger sister asked if Dillon (my son) would be home before their mom came to pick them up. I said “not today, he has drama club after school”. She thought for a moment then said “so they have to deal with a lot of drama?”.
  2. Another little girl was really into superhero’s when she was about three. My husband came home for lunch one day and she started giving all of us super hero names. She said “I’m Supergirl, Aunt Jill is Wonder Woman, Dillon is Spider-Man, and YOU are Super FARTSTAIN!”. I had never heard her use that term before and couldn’t help but laugh.
  3. I was babysitting two little sisters this past summer. I had just moved so I went to their house to babysit them every day for a couple of weeks. The first day, the older sister is showing me around the house and pointing out significant toys and such. We got to her little sister’s room where she proceeded to tell me about a spider that was in the baby’s room, but daddy wouldn’t kill it. I asked her why daddy wouldn’t kill it and she said “because him an asshole”. I had to go into the other room to laugh. I know she heard her mom say that and was repeating what she said, but it really caught me off guard!
