Choosing the right running and walking shoes is essential for comfort, performance, and injury prevention. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you make an informed decision.

1. Know Your Foot Type

Before choosing a shoe, it is important to know your foot type. There are three main types:

Neutral: If your foot has a normal arch and does not overpronate (your foot rotates inward too much), then you probably have a neutral foot type.

Overpronation: If your foot rotates inward too much when walking or running, you may need a stability shoe that provides extra support.

Underpronation (pronation): If your foot rotates outward, look for a cushioned shoe that provides more flexibility.

You can determine your foot type by examining the wear pattern of your current shoe or visiting a specialized running store for a gait analysis.

2. Determine Your Purpose

Determine if you primarily need a shoe for running or walking, as each activity has different requirements:

Running shoes: These shoes are designed to handle higher impact forces and typically have more cushioning and support.

Walking shoes: These are typically less cushioned than running shoes, but focus on stability and comfort when standing or walking for long periods of time.

3. Focus on fit

Fit is critical to choosing the right shoe:

Try to leave at least a thumb's width of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe to accommodate swelling of the foot during activity.

Make sure the shoe fits snugly around the midfoot, but not too tight, as this helps prevent blisters.

When trying on shoes, wear the same type of socks you plan to wear when running or walking.

4. Consider cushioning and support

The amount of cushioning needed depends on personal preference and intended use:

For long-distance runs, look for shoes with enough cushioning to absorb impact.

For shorter runs or walks, a lighter, less cushioned shoe may be better for speed.

If you have special needs due to past injuries or a condition like plantar fasciitis, consider talking to a podiatrist or physical therapist about additional support features.

5. Test different brands and models

Due to differences in design and manufacturing, different brands of shoes feel different when worn. It is recommended to try several pairs of shoes from different brands:

Visit your local specialty running shoe store, where the staff can provide professional advice based on your needs.

Take the time to try on each pair of shoes; they should feel comfortable immediately, without any pinching or discomfort.

6. Check return policies when shopping online

If you buy online, choose retailers with good return policies so you can try the shoes out at home without risk. This ensures they will meet your expectations during actual use.

7. Read reviews and recommendations

Look for reviews from other users who have similar needs to you. Sites that specialize in footwear reviews often offer insights into durability, comfort, and performance metrics to guide your selection.

By following these steps—understanding your foot shape, determining your use, focusing on fit, considering cushioning needs, testing various options, checking return policies, and reading reviews—you can find the men’s running and walking shoes that are best for you.

Classic doc martens always look good with doc martens, especially if you have fishnets under the ripped jeans.

I also love combining ripped jeans with converse or high heels combat boots, but I don't think heels in general suit ripped jeans.

Just to be clear, we’re not talking about sports shoes, like basketball or running shoes.

A non-slip sole and leather upper make them perfect for wet conditions.

Today, boat shoes are classic casual wear, no longer reserved for the docks. This shoe style also looks good with pinrolled jeans if the occasion requires something extra laid-back.

And because of that, boat shoes are one of the best casual menʼs shoes to wear with jeans.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a pair of shoes that are super-easy to put on and take off? Shoes that are also affordable, casual, and comfortable to wear with jeans?

If this is your case, then canvas loafers might be your white knight.

You see, canvas loafers are casual. They also offer the convenience of slip-on styling, unlike sneakers.

Unless youʼre around a pool or at the beach, flip-flops arenʼt acceptable to wear in public. But canvas loafers are. Also, canvas loafers don’t cost that much more, and the canvas material lets your feet breathe.

Desert boots are similar to Chukka boots, which we just looked at. Yet, unlike Chukkas, Desert boots always have suede uppers and a rubber sole. The latter are also unlined and often lighter in weight.

Monkstraps are as dressy as classic dress shoes, mentioned earlier. Also, the unique design of monkstraps makes your style look more interesting.

We distinguish between single- and double-buckle monkstraps.

Wear double-buckle monkstraps. These are dressier shoes to wear with jeans than the more laid-back, single-buckle type.

But if you’ll be wearing this look on private occasions, you should know that single-buckle monkstraps are lighter and more flexible to walk in.

Today, driving mocs have become a favorite amongst fashionistas, jet-setters, and influencers. You certainly donʼt need an Italian supercar in your garage to wear these anymore.

Driving mocs have a flexible sole that extends up onto the heel. An area that is in constant contact with the floor mat of the car.

I once met a man who drove a modest Toyota Corolla, wore beat-up sneakers, and looked like he’d lived the same way for decades. But what really caught my attention was when he casually mentioned he was retired at 45 with more money than he could ever spend. I couldn’t help but ask, “How did you do it?”

He smiled and said, “The secret to saving money is knowing where to look for the waste—and car insurance is one of the easiest places to start.”

He smiled and said, “The secret to saving money is knowing where to look for the waste—and car insurance is one of the easiest places to start.”

He then walked me through a few strategies that I’d never thought of before. Here’s what I learned:

1. Make insurance companies fight for your business

Most people just stick with the same insurer year after year, but that’s what the companies are counting on. This guy used tools like Coverage.com to compare rates every time his policy came up for renewal. It only took him a few minutes, and he said he’d saved hundreds each year by letting insurers compete for his business.

Click here to try Coverage.com and see how much you could save today.

2. Take advantage of safe driver programs

He mentioned that some companies reward good drivers with significant discounts. By signing up for a program that tracked his driving habits for just a month, he qualified for a lower rate. “It’s like a test where you already know the answers,” he joked.

You can find a list of insurance companies offering safe driver discounts here and start saving on your next policy.

3. Bundle your policies

He bundled his auto insurance with his home insurance and saved big. “Most companies will give you a discount if you combine your policies with them. It’s easy money,” he explained. If you haven’t bundled yet, ask your insurer what discounts they offer—or look for new ones that do.

4. Drop coverage you don’t need

He also emphasized reassessing coverage every year. If your car isn’t worth much anymore, it might be time to drop collision or comprehensive coverage. “You shouldn’t be paying more to insure the car than it’s worth,” he said.

5. Look for hidden fees or overpriced add-ons

One of his final tips was to avoid extras like roadside assistance, which can often be purchased elsewhere for less. “It’s those little fees you don’t think about that add up,” he warned.

The Secret? Stop Overpaying

The real “secret” isn’t about cutting corners—it’s about being proactive. Car insurance companies are counting on you to stay complacent, but with tools like Coverage.com and a little effort, you can make sure you’re only paying for what you need—and saving hundreds in the process.

If you’re ready to start saving, take a moment to:

Any casual shoe, Boots, sneakers can go with it.

I will personally prefer Natural Tan or natural brown color boots or leather casual shoes or sneakers and that is depends on what I am wearing on jeans i.e. Shirt or tshirt or polo

Sneakers: A classic pair of sneakers can complement denim jeans perfectly. White or black sneakers can work with any color of denim, and they can add a casual, relaxed feel to your outfit.

For men, standard leather shoes, loafers, semi-formal; suede shoes, canvas sneakers and even sports-shoes are good with a pair of jeans - in fact, decide what is the occasion and follow up your shoe style, basis that.

For example, sneakers may be great with a pair of jeans, but it is a bad idea to wear them to work. For picnics, outings, casual meets with friends, they are fine. Suede shoes - and trendy variations of semi-formal shoes work well for most occasions, these days.

Take your pick -

For women too - the same rule holds true - go by the occasion and dress type. For standard jeans - anything works - depending upon what’s on your agenda. If you have had a pedicure recently, wear open toed sandals. Also keep the weather and amount of walking (you would do) in mind. Stilettos are great, but not if you will have to run after a bus, or at the metro station.

For denim dresses, wear loafers, bellies, boots or the very trendy flat shoes. Take your pick -

For casual occasions and everyday wear - if your workplace allows, you can even wear ethnic chappals or juttis with jeans. They look uber cool.

Do yourself a favor and go to a shoe store that specializes in fitting you with the right shoe. Typically that would include having you walk on a treadmill so they can watch your gait. There are many different styles of athletic shoe and it is definitely not a one style fits all type of situation. Let the professional guide you on what you should try and actually put the shoe through a test on the treadmill before buying. A well fitting shoe with the right support can cost a pretty penny, but it’s worth it to find the right fit.

To pick men’s running and walking shoes, focus on fit, support, and activity type. Ensure the shoes fit snugly but leave about a thumb's width between your toes and the tip. Look for adequate arch support and cushioning based on your foot type (neutral, flat, or high arch). For running, prioritize shock absorption and flexibility, while walking shoes should offer firm arch support and a stable sole. Always try on shoes later in the day when your feet are slightly swollen to get the most accurate fit.
