There will always be a reason behind any feeling. However, we don’t always need to understand, on a cognitive level, the reason behind our feelings.

Trying to understand why we’re feeling a certain way is a distraction from just feeling the feeling. It is another way of us avoiding, or getting away from the uncomfortable feeling, in this case, sadness.

Instead, whenever you start to feel sad, stay with that feeling, rather than going into thoughts about it. Just feel the physical feeling of it, wherever it is in your body. The longer you stay with this feeling, the sooner it will be able to heal naturally.

From just feeling the sadness, you may even come to understand why you are feeling this way. However, once the feeling has healed and dissolved, the urge to find out why you’re feeling this way will also dissolve.
