I’m going to answer this with a story. The connection will become clear, I promise. When I was about 8 I got a pair of roller skates for my birthday. I practically slept in them. The girl down the road asked for a turn and I said no. They were mine, for me. She knew my Dad very well and was an astute little hustler. She went straight to my dad and told him I wouldn’t share. He told me to give the skates to her for a whole day. I learned a lot from that about sharing what we have with others, even if the others are scheming little female dogs. It really helped form my baseline thinking. I always try to give away anything I don’t need. But if you need something rather than just wanting it, it’s fine to put dibs on it. Like licking the cake on the plate so no-one else will touch it. That’s survival tactics, not jealousy.
