I feel a bit bad writing this, because I know that the hostess was serving the best she had, and that she didn’t have a lot of money.

I was visiting one of my cousins in Norway, a long time ago, the older one, now passed on.

She served a fish that was full of bones. It was a lot of work to eat it, and I don’t think I consumed very much of it, because I had to pick all the bones out first. The bones were quite off-putting. I don’t even remember what else she served, because eating the fish was so much work. Maybe there were potatoes as well.

For dessert she served some berries with whipped cream. I guess these berries were a delicacy. I don’t know if she purchased them or had gone out and picked them. The Norwegians delightedly consumed them and wanted seconds. It was all I could do to eat the one serving. The berries were so sour!
