Looking at other answers to this question already posted here, I am surprised that I cannot see any mention of the film Groundhog Day, because I would say that for me it is the film that has the most satisfying ending.
I like the way that the thoroughly dislikeable TV weather man Phil Connors (played by Bill Murray) has to undergo something of a purgatory-like experience in reliving the same day of his life over and over again so that all of his bad habits and character defects can be ironed out, but because there are so many of them the experience does go on for a long time, and it looks as though there will be no escape for him from it. However we can at least see how Phil becomes a better person in so many ways in this process and learns some new skills along the way too, such as playing the piano. Towards the end of the film, Phil is becoming unrecognisable from the person he was at the start of it, and we are beginning to root for him and get on his side.
In the end it is only right that Phil is so suddenly and unexpectedly released from his torment of endlessly reliving the same day of his life over and over again, and so this is why the end of the film is so satisfying not only for him but for all of us watching the film, because by now we feel he has deserved it.
I should just add in conclusion that I rate “Groundhog Day” as among the funniest four or five films I have ever seen.
