What did TruthFinder show?

  • Full Name, Address, Phone Number

  • Dating Profiles, Social Media, & More!

Who knew the deep web had so much for anyone to see!?!?

Absolutely, but it can take some work.

Some search engines respect the Robots.txt file. It’s important to note that Robots.txt is a guideline that remote services don’t have to follow. Most of the major search engines respect this, but it’s merely a courtesy. Frankly, the search engines could say they respect it and still capture the data from your site, but without displaying the results. You’d never know the difference.

The way to prevent ChatGPT and others from crawling your site is to put it behind an authentication mechanism that you control. Simple password protection could do the trick, but you’re better off using OAuth or another proven security strategy that leverages key exchanges. Basic authentication (i.e. simple passwords) can be pretty easy to hack… especially for an A.I. system. The details of OAuth are outside the scope of this answer, but it is an example of an auth strategy that can slow down spiders.

Bottom line, the only way to make sure an A.I. doesn’t get your site data is to firewall it.

To search a specific website and to use a specific keyword, try the following:

Key differences:

  1. Conversation vs. Link-hopping: ChatGPT provides synthesized information directly rather than requiring you to click through multiple sites.
  2. Unique query patterns: Our data shows transactional searches follow different patterns:
  • Automotive (15.2%) and Computer Hardware (14.8%) lead ChatGPT queries
  • Users engage in multi-turn conversations to refine their understanding. Most conversations are one turn though with a typical power law (long tail).
  1. Regional awareness: ChatGPT provides regionally relevant responses (e.g., Tesla in US queries, Volkswagen in European queries).

When to use ChatGPT:

  • For synthesized information from multiple sources
  • When exploring complex topics conversationally
  • For guidance through purchase decisions

When traditional search is better:

  • Finding specific websites
  • Accessing very recent information
  • Visual browsing of multiple options

Research from Aiso suggests the most effective approach is using both tools complementarily - traditional search for specific resources and ChatGPT for synthesizing information and guiding complex decisions.

In simple words, it can generate "human-like text."

ChatGPT can perform a variety of other tasks that search engines previously performed, such as writing code or explaining complex concepts in a way that a 5-year-old could understand.

One potential use case for ChatGPT in a search engine is as a natural language processing (NLP) model that can understand and respond to user queries in a more human-like way. It could be used to generate more informative and accurate search results or to provide users with more natural and conversational search interactions. Additionally, ChatGPT can be customized for particular tasks. For instance, it can be used to generate product descriptions or question-answer pairs.

In general, there are numerous approaches to applying GPT-based models for generative and transfer-learning NLP tasks. Therefore, the needs and layout of a search engine would determine particularly how ChatGPT would be employed there.

If you wanted to know everything about ChatGPT and how it works.

Traditional search engines are better for complex queries and providing accurate results. They show you a list of websites related to your search. ChatGPT, while good at some questions, might not always be as accurate or up-to-date.

Here are few more technical differences between a Search Engine and ChatGPT:

  1. Indexing and Crawling: Traditional search engines use web crawlers to index billions of web pages and make them searchable. ChatGPT does not have a web crawling capability and relies on the data it was trained on, which has a knowledge cutoff date of September 2021.
  2. Database and Freshness: Search engines maintain vast databases of indexed web pages and strive to provide the most up-to-date information available on the internet. ChatGPT's knowledge is based on the data available up until September 2021 and does not have real-time web browsing capabilities
  3. Query Complexity: Traditional search engines are designed to handle complex queries and return a list of relevant results. ChatGPT, while capable of processing more sophisticated queries, may not be as adept at handling a wide range of search queries as traditional search engines.
  4. Results Accuracy: Traditional search engines are optimized for precision and accuracy in retrieving search results. ChatGPT's responses are based on patterns learned during training and may occasionally produce incorrect or less accurate information.

ChatGPT is useful for tasks where you want to talk or get explanations in natural language. But if you need to find a wide range of information from all over the internet, traditional search engines like Google are still the best choice.

Ultimately, whereas Google Search helps people find information quickly and easily, Chatgpt provides an interactive way to interact with AI technology.

Google Search and Chatgpt are both valuable tools, each offering its own unique set of capabilities. For those looking for a quick answer to their questions, Google Search is the ideal choice. But for those who want more detailed answers or an interactive experience, Chatgpt may be the perfect solution. In either case, AI technology is quickly becoming an invaluable asset in today's world and these two programs are at the forefront of that revolution.

4. Time Efficiency: Studies suggest that users may spend less time performing tasks when using ChatGPT compared to traditional search engines, without a significant difference in the quality of outcomes.

5. User Experience: Users report better experiences in terms of usefulness, enjoyment, and satisfaction when using ChatGPT.

However, it's important to note that while ChatGPT can excel in certain areas, it may not always be the best tool for fact-checking or when detailed, specific search results are needed. Traditional search engines still play a crucial role in information discovery and verifiation. The choice between using ChatGPT or a search engine like Google often depends on the user's specific needs and preferences at the moment.

The internet has grown to include new types of media as well as messaging, apps, IoT, 5G, AVs, edge computing, and so forth, all of which need search enabled. There is an opportunity to customize for particular use cases, e.g. academic lit reviews. Critics argue that institutions and governments should also be able to field large language models.

This is often an iterative process. You can start with any sources like papers in your field and then follow citations. Various research services attempt to automate this.

ChatGPT creates new content as do other models, e.g. summarization or QA, but you could also use it to find conventional or systematic research prompts. And to classify lists of items, e.g. into quadrants by discovered dimensions. In all cases, you may still want to verify link relevance and recency.

From my experimentation with it, it can answer most basic questions about things that are general knowledge and widely discussed. If you ask it about New York City it will know many things but if you ask it about Woodbridge NJ it will know almost nothing. Woodbridge is not a small town but it is not particularly notable. There is a Wikipedia page about Woodbridge and Google will for example happily give you a link to the Wikipedia page you need. ChatGPT is limited in the sense it can’t access the internet in real time and retrieve a webpage about Woodbridge and give you facts from that page. So far the technology is primitive in its “search engine” abilities because it can’t look up anything in real time. I think this is a simple limitation to overcome so a very useful Search Engine can be built on technology such as ChatGPT, it is a matter of a few years, not decades.

I think even Google is looking to incorporate this technology into its search engine. They know they have to improve their abilities to the level that this sort of technology can provide. It will be interesting times as large language models help in the search.

Yes, it is possible to fine-tune GPT-3 or any other large language model for a specific task or domain. Fine-tuning involves training the model on a smaller dataset that is specific to the task or domain of interest, so that it can learn to generate text that is more relevant and appropriate for that particular context. This is a common technique used to make language models more effective for specific use cases, and can be done by using transfer learning with a pre-trained model as the starting point.

You could try using the "site:" operator in Google.

If you search (site:*brand.*) in Google, you should see domains that contain your branded term. It won't catch all of them though as you won't be able to see those that start with brand. For that you'll need (site:*brand*.*).

Let me know what results you get.

Profile photo for Jonathan Elder

I’ve not seen one, but you could probably write an extension, so that every time you did a search it added a big block of text on the end of the search string with all the negative terms you had saved.

If you want more complex that that, you are probably looking at creating your own search engine, but that gets complicated, fast.
