When my dad married my first stepmother, it was a very small wedding in their home, but her three daughters, I, and a couple of female cousins were all there, unmarried, and of “marriageable age.” We all dutifully got up so she could toss the bouquet from the staircase. No one else lifted a hand. None wanted the dratted thing. I caught it to be sure it didn’t hit the ground. I remain blessedly single, and all my sisters and cousins got married.
