My most memorable moment was probably last week, at a local, popular restaurant.
My grandmother and I had just ordered coffee when an elderly man and his granddaughter sat in the table nearest to us. We struck up a conversation while we sipped our coffee.
As we were about to leave, his granddaughter grabbed my arm, pulled me aside and said, “Thank you for that. My grandfather is in his final days, and he has never had such a nice conversation in a coffee shop before. You've made his day.”
I was stunned, as the elderly man looked fit and healthy, but his granddaughter didn’t elaborate on the details of his illness.
It made both my grandmother’s day, and my own. I'll always think of that lovely man - it was a small thing, but it had a big impact on someone’s life when they needed it most.
