Now, I did not see the programmer do this. But I did play this game a lot.
This computer had 1 KB memory for everything. That is 1024 letters could be stored in that space. But some was needed to operate the computer, you could not use all of it. Some guy made a good chess game on this computer. And just to give you one idea, the screen had only text, no graphics, The screen could hold 24 rows of text and 32 letters on each line. Just to fill the screen would require 768 bytes of those 1024.
This is how it looked like. To me, this is just beyond amazing. The thing is, the computer AI (no AI really) was not all bad. Now you don’t need to keep the chess board in memory, you can recreate it constantly, but you must know how all the characters play, how the knight can jump. The location of each piece.
This just makes my brain explode. I can’t fathom or figure this out. Some people are just so clever.
