Naturally, minions have poor eyesight. As seen in Despicable Me 2, after the first minion became a purple one, he lost his goggles and his eyesight dramatically diminished, and he was no longer able to see properly. The goggles, or glasses, are a way for them to see the world and help their masters, without it all being blurry and confusing.
