My dad had major depression for 3 years, the kind of depression that made him unable to get out of bed, he litterally spent like 80% of those 3 years on the bed, after only two weeks of taking medications (I guess some kind of SSRI) he was completely “cured”, and returned back to his normal life, and still living a very active and productive life until this moment.

In my opinion he was a rare case, I’m bipolar and medications never worked for me, I know a lot of clinically depressed people who gave up on SSRIs because they only made things worse.

It is a sad thing we know very little about this monster called depression, or mental illness in general, why meds work like magic for some people and don’t do anything for others? why some people recover and others suffer for the rest of their lifes? I think no one knows, which is really sad.
