We're not really entirely in control of how successful we are. Just because we work hard, doesn't mean we'll necessarily make it to the top. There are so many confounding variables in the equation, that often the most successful people have been incredibly lucky in ways that you can only really see when you look back on their lives.

Yes they work hard too - this is almost always necessary. But hardly ever enough.
