Views on Quora help capture the impact the knowledge people are sharing has had on the world. We aim to surface the highest quality answers the most so we can help the most people whether they are logged-into Quora, reading our digest emails, or coming to Quora from search engines, links on partner sites or social media.
We count a view on Quora each time we believe someone has seen a question, answer, or post. Specifically, this includes:
- When someone browses feed and a piece of content comes into their view for a period of time or they click to expand or go to that piece of content. This includes the home feed, as well as the feeds on topic pages and profile pages.
- When someone sees an answer on a question page (both for logged-in and logged-out users). An answer will only count as a view if it is visible on the viewer's screen, so if the answer is ranked lowly, and the viewer does not scroll down to the answer, it will not count as a view. As a result, higher quality answers (i.e. those ranked highly) generally get significantly more views.
- We don't de-duplicate views if someone were to go back repeatedly to a piece of content over time. This is similar to how pageviews are generally counted on the web. However, we do add a time delay, so if you were to reload something over and over and over, it would still just be 1 view until that time window ends.
- We count views both on the web and on mobile.
