There are two types of WPS according to AWS

1. Pre-qualified WPS
2. Qualified WPS

WPS is sort of welding procedure that govern all aspect of welding, e.g.

type of current (AC/DC), type of transfer in MIG/GMAW, type of welding bevel, type of electrode, travel speed, type of voltage, range of amperage, range of qualified thickness, etc.

Before WPS created there is another procedure called PQR (Procedure Qualification Record) and actually, on this PQR every single future WPS parameter is being set, to create PQR you will need test coupon, and later after successful welding there will be non destructive test and or mechanical test(destructive test) to prove bond integrity

WPS can contain more than 1 PQR, thus, we, welding inspector call it combined WPS

WPS can be use in any kind of welding as long as code permit, to name few, as per ASME, as Per AWS, as per API, etc, and every code and recommended practice has their own criteria to follow, so please, there is NO 'Usually I use this WPS, or I always use this WPS' circumstances change, that will govern the use of WPS

Good WPS is always include all welder 'habit' A welder always use low amperage, and slower travel speed, but B welder used high amperage and faster travel speed

There is common mistake made by welding engineer and or welding inspector, they use 1 parameter from 1 welder for ALL welders in the company, resulted in high compliance issues and or quality issues, simply because they are NOT used to use the parameter given, and argument will start from there

Creating PQR can be tricky, and that's when experiences play a part

Pre qualified WPS has all their parameter set by consumable manufacturer and AWS committee, as for WPS (qualified WPS) is set by company

Wi-Fi Protected Access

WPA: Wi-Fi Protected AccessWPA stands for Wi-Fi Protected Access. It is a security protocol for Wi-Fi networks. It was developed to replace the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or to improve upon the features of WEP. It was introduced in 2003 with the 802.11i wireless standard. WPS is a short for Welding Procedure Specification which is one of the procedure specification. which is a written document providing direction to the person applying the material joining process. Details for the preparation and qualification of procedure specifications for welding (WPS), brazing (BPS), and fusing (FPS) are given in the respective Parts of the qualification codes (e.g. ASME BPVC Section IX) addressing those processes. Procedure specifications address the conditions (including ranges, if any) under which the material joining process must be performed. These conditions are referred to in ASME BPVC Section IX as “variables.” When a procedure specification is prepared by the organization, it shall address, as a minimum, the specific essential and nonessential variables that are applicable to the material joining process to be used in production. When the referencing Code, standard, or specification requires toughness qualification of the material joining procedure, the applicable supplementary essential variables shall also be addressed in the procedure specification. The purpose of qualifying the procedure specification is to demonstrate that the joining process proposed for construction is capable of producing joints having the required mechanical properties for the intended application. Qualification of the procedure specification demonstrates the mechanical properties of the joint made using a joining process, and not the skill of the person using the joining process. The procedure qualification record (PQR) documents what occurred during the production of a procedure qualification test coupon and the results of testing that coupon.
