Lack of respect for our Motherland.
Date was Jun 18 2017, INDIA vs PAKISTAN ,Finals of ICC Champions Trophy.
It was Sunday which I vividly remember. I was sitting in a restaurant, famished and desperately waiting for the food . The tv was telecasting the pre-match ceremonies where cricket veterans were discussing the pitch conditions and speculating a great match. Everybody in the restaurant had their eyes glued to the television. Abruptly the power went off. People were frustrated as hell. Nobody wanted to miss even a milli-second of the, so called, “The Clash of Titans” event. But fortunately the power came up and tv was on. I saw that both the teams were standing beside each other and it didn’t take me more than a second to figure out what was next. People ,though still watching the tv, were also busy chit-chatting, eating, ordering dishes etc. Just then our National Anthem was played. At that moment instead of seeing respect among people, I saw confusion in their face. They were confused, whether to stand or not and what the person beside them might think. All of them had “why-me-first” sort of attitude. I completely got annoyed and I stood up immediately. Still I saw people were sitting , enjoying their meal while our National Anthem was being played. I was furious and heart-broken, I literally had to shouted “ Can every stand as a mark of respect for our National Anthem?”. Slowly everyone stood up. However people in the cash counter were still talking and busy transacting. Again I had to shout “ Maintain silence please!!!”. Only then there was a pin-drop silence in the room.
Such arrogant/lazy/introvert kind of attitude is wrong with most of our countrymen and we should learn to overcome such feelings when it is about our nationalism.
People please try to understand that the least we can do for our nation is showing respect to our Anthem and Flag. Often after Independence day celebration we see our flag lying scattered on ground, with few people even stamping their feet on it. This sort of thing are completely unwanted and unexpected from of our countrymen.
Take pride in our National Anthem, take pride in being an Indian.
P.S: That was the 1st day that I ever shout in public(or to say on public ), but I felt proud on myself ( with few goosebumps as well :) )
