The secret to living life to the fullest is hiding in plain sight, but can’t be grasped by thought. It’s crazy how simple it is.
It’s also a secret that I wish I was aware of a long time ago.
As human beings, we are constrained within time, which contains past, present, and future (or so we think).
The truth is, there is no such thing as the past or the future - they are mental creations of the mind.
This ultimately means time (in the psychological sense) is an illusion.
There is only NOW. There is only THIS moment. Life is always happening through the now.
Look at animals. Look at children. Look at nature in general. They are always rooted in NOW.
Many people are not “here”, many people are stuck in their heads thinking about the past or anticipating the future.
This means many people can’t take effective action in the present, which is the only way you can live life.
A long time ago, I used to look towards the future as salvation from my unsatisfactory life.
When I get jacked, then I’ll be happy.
When I get out college, I’ll have a better life.
When I get to X age, everything will make sense.
When I become good at guitar, then I’ll feel accomplished.
When I make a certain amount of money, then all of my worries will disappear.
All of these things happened, but guess what? There was still this gnawing sense of unease. Then, more future projection started to happen.
I realized what I was doing: mortgaging my happiness in the present for some future that may or may not happen.
I was so dissatisfied with what was going on NOW that I needed an escape.
Why couldn’t I be content looking out the window on a nice day?
Why couldn’t I accept my feelings instead of trying to bury them?
Why couldn’t I just be fine with whatever happened?
If you want to live life to the fullest, accept and embrace NOW.
Realize that you must take action and don’t put things off to some imaginary “some day”.
Some day will become right now, eventually.
