I am in Tokyo.
The Following are my observations:
- Never noticed the following until this morning
If you notice the chairs are not facing the roadside at the bus stop. They face opposite to the road.
My assumption on how people will understand that the bus arrived or not.
The streets in Japan are very calm, you can hear minor sounds. If a bus arrives you can easily hear the big vehicles. Also mostly always buses are on time. So you don't have to wait for the bus you just have to wait for the bus time and it will be there.
It's opposite to what I have seen in India.
Not sure about other countries.
Edit 1: Adding one more.
2. If you rent an apartment in Japan, you will be ripped off at the time of leaving the apartment.
A small dirt spot on the wall can cause you around 10000 yen, this amount is for single wallpaper. A small Room kitchen home can have 20–30 wallpaper sheet. This is just one aspect there are many such.
The reason is in Japan when you rent an apartment they give it to you like brand new. The makeover everything.
EDIT 2:
3. Advertisement in the letterbox.
Paper pamphlets are used a lot for advertising in Japan. They drop in your letterbox.
Japan is very strict about its waste management. So you can see a box placed near letterbox of the apartment so that you can scrap unnecessary papers easily.
Edit 3:
4. Use of coins, In Japan, you will find coins are widely used. There are 1 ,5,10,50,100,500 yen coins in use. Nowhere you find the problem of change. If you have to pay 324 yen and you handover a 10000 yen bill, you get back the remaining change within seconds that to that machine's which gives the exact change in bills and coins. I have a box full of coins as I mostly don't pay by coins.
5. Support and Convenience for disabled people.
The above picture is the best example to convey my point. Disable person get on at station X, and want to get down at station Y. Support will be readily available for him. Someone will be waiting exactly near the exit door to assist him in getting down.
6. Fruits and vegetables are very expensive compare to India. (And maybe many other countries) . There can be too much variation in prices at different stores and times.
Watermelon can cost 1500 yen.
Mangoes are a fortune. Start with 600–700 yen per piece. Rare Japan grown mangoes cost 4–5k yen per piece.
7. Mottainai Culture: Japan has a way to save the environment and resources on planet by the idea of Mottainai. Mottainai is an idea that teaches us to respect physical objects like food, clothing, etc, and form a bond with them. It also teaches us to respect physical objects and pay respect to them after use.
This is a recommended article to understand this in detail and follow in your life.
