This representation of the interactions between three main components of the world economy suggests that the three comprise a closed system. Since the population is inexorably growing we can only barely support the newcomers by expanding the economy. That puts more demands on the planet for resources--land, fuel, air, water, and minerals. At the rate the population is growing, this vicious cycle could only be stopped by a revolution or collapse.
