We spent 12 days on a cruise from Southampton, England to New York City, NY in memory of the Titanic. My wife and I got to meet a lot of wonderful people who also were paying their respect to those lives lost on April 14/15, 1912. We spent 4 hours, 100 years to the minute, at the exact place where the Titanic sank in the cold North Atlantic.
We all cried that night as music was sung, a memorial service was held, and a feeling swept over us of what it must have been like. It was a sobering experience. An amazing sense of tragedy, as we looked out into the black abyss of that night. In the distance from the large gathering we heard a solo voice sing, "Nearer My God to Thee". Sad...
I have never been to, nor do I ever expect to bear witness to, such an event ever again in my lifetime. Truly, as the movie title, it was "A Night To Remember."
