- Google Worldwide Headquarters, how may I direct your call?

- Er, hello, uh, yeah, I'd like to speak with someone about a really good idea for Google.

- Free or paid?

- Excuse me?

- Free or paid? Would you like to hand out some free advice, or be paid for your innovation? If you're not sure, press 7 or say "I'm feeling lucky".

- Oh, uh, no, uh, paid. I'd like to get pa...

- Do you have a patent issued?

- No. I mean yes. I mean no, not yet, I just filed it yesterday.

- That's quite alright, sir. Let me transfer you over to our Senior Vice President for RPA. Please stay on the line.

- Thank you but what's RP...

- Good morning, this is Julie from Random Patent Acquisition. I understand you have a patent for us?

- Yes! Yes, I do. It's actually a really good idea.

- Great! We love patented ideas. Can you tell me a bit more about it?

- Sure. See, it occurred to me that Google can do this thing, and make it so that this happens, and then people would be really happy and use Google much more and Google would make roughly a billion dollars more every year.

- Wow. Just, wow. That's a really phenomenal idea, I can't believe nobody here thought about it before but I guess that's why I'm here - to cover up for all the great ideas our own engineers should have come up with first! Haha. So, you've already filed a patent?

- Yes! Yes ma'am, yes I did.

- Awesome, awesome, very nice work. This must have cost you like $3,000 and several hours of your time with a patent attorney. I love the dedication, you must believe in your idea very deeply. So listen, Google really adores patents - some say they're just ideas thrown on paper with no work actually carried out, no execution, no attention to detail, no integration, no consequences, no iterations, no uphill battles, no unexpected difficulties, no false turns, no dedication, no ingenious workarounds, no implementation details, no sleepless nights, but I say screw that, right? Right! We really really do love them and we value Random Patents very very highly. I'd like to offer you $12M to acquire your patent, would that be acceptable?

- Oh, er, well, ok, given the expected revenue boost over ten years and a cut of just 2% to the inventor I was actually thinking more along the lines of $200M...

- Ah, tough negotiator, but I guess we really don't have any leverage here, do we. How about $198M?

- Let's meet in the middle. $199M?

- Deal. Congratulations! Fantastic work there, where should I send the check?
